It’s our Birthday! Yayyyyyyyyy
We are a whole 1 year old today! 365 days ago, I sat at this computer and made a blog, with a freshly drawn owl, and plans of world domination. In a touchingly beautiful tale, I still have the texts between myself and Joe, in which we are talking about what to call the label, my lovingly (slightly joking) Howling owl was settled on, although there is a scathing message from D-Force simply saying ‘Howling Owl sounds shit’ , oh little Frosty Jack, how very wrong you are and were. The following few days after making the blog, I spent hours carefully constructing HOWL1 , a coloured cassette tape featuring new bands we had met and befriended, Holy Stain (RIP) , Towns , Concubines and Spectres. Needless to say that tape was the seed that sprouted into a naughty money sapping dandelion. We’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the best bands in Bristol, and further afield, true musical beauties. Bands, that (stupidly) trust us, little old us, curly sue and skinny timmy,…to release their precious music. We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for those bands, and YOU! Every time we sell something, we get a tingle inside, a little fizzing in our pants, because it means we are spreading the music we love, and believe in, into your ears, like a buttery mess on your toasty mind. It’s fitting that the release that is coming out closest to our little birthday, is the new Towns single, a band who took a risk with us, because Joe had rape eyes and I convinced them to be on our tape. But from the moment I saw them at their feed me with your hiss night, stood alone, I knew they were stupid enough to join our project. YAY.
I’m blabbing, and blubbing, typing through misty teared eyes is hard…. so i’ll finish up, in the last year we’ve released tapes / zines / hand drawn tshirts (they took fucking ages to draw…) / real tshirts / 7” vinyl and of course 12” fecking vinyl. NOT BAD FOR A BEDROOM PROJECT EH! The next few releases are lined up and are all so special, and they help us move forward as a label and a community of friends. Bristol has such a good scene right now, and it seems like people are really starting to take notice, SO LETS HOPE WE RIDE THOSE COAT TAILS SO WE CAN GIVE UP OUR JOBS AND DRINK WINE FROM JP’S NIPPLES AND ROBIN’S TONGUE.
Here’s to the next 365 days……
Massive thankyou to these people, for making the last 365 days possible…Holy Stain (RIP) , Towns , The Naturals, United fruit, Velcro Hooks, Falling Stacks, Sam Betts and F.O.F , Tidal Wars, Mayans, Lets Kill Janice,Leroy and Carla (you guys will get your dj slot!) Lily and Jordan Cook, Fairhorns, Hollow bear, all the people that have bought something, all the people who have hated on us, anyone who has a pet owl, and lastly, anyone we have forgotten, who thinks they deserve it… oh and our dead dogs.

Just finished this Tshirt design for the awesome UNITED FRUIT
They are doing a European tour in May, so go out, buy a tshirt, buy a record and enjoy it all! They make angular noise that is brilliant!
I did this for the Record store day ‘Howling Owl’ release. It’s the cover for the really limited 12” release. It’s gonna look sexy when it’s printed!
I had about 20 minutes to get a poster done for Rise, the band it’s for released one of my favourite albums of this year so far. I knew I already had this image, and it fit with their art concept, so I re-used it, cheeeeeky I know. In printing the ink changed colour on the repeat image, giving it a cool two-tone pink and purple. Wish I had done that on purpose now!
NAKED CHICKS
Making massive changes to my website, so been experimenting with making a nice font. The font at the top is the final one so far, in a nice faded circle. Not sure if it’s a bit too ‘right now’ though? Hmmmmmmm. Plus my life drawing classes have been filling my sketchbooks with naked people, thought I’d mess around and put some up. The top one has the dreaded repeat imagery…need to shake it outta my system…. it was done with a really fine pen. The second lot are last weeks efforts, using a dip pen and ink. Ultimately rewarding even if using a photocopier to shrink down the A3 original’s made me look like some weird pervert….

chuffed to have been commissioned to do some prints for a rather sexy high street fashion brand, here’s a super sneak peak at one of the designs…they even embellished it. I’ve done stuff for the A/W 12 collection…so keep your eyes peeled later in the year! once I can say who the company are…I will…..GOOD TIMES!
